Candy Corn

In preperation for the Killer Kozek + Peeps Panzner costume party, I created my costume…I bought some candy corn orange and yellow cotton fabric for $1.99/yard at Jo-Ann’s. First, I hemmed the yellow to the bottom of orange fabric. Then I cut that in half and then free handed an outline for the skirt. I did have some inspiration and guidance from an A-line skirt I owned. I hemmed the pieces together and added an elastic waist for lack of a better idea of how to finish the skirt. Add a simple white t-shirt and voila!, you’ve got a candy corn.

My costume: Candy Corn 2

For my first real sewing “project”, and without a pattern, I think I did pretty well. I’m not convinced that I would ever make anything that I would actually wear long-term but now I know how to create a hem on a sewing machine. Hmm, that reminds me - I have some pants that need shortening…. Unfortunately, I think that it was only midly successful as a costume for a house party. In a crowded house, there was no compelling reason to think I was dressed up since all you saw was a white shirt. This goes for pictures as well. I had people, 2 hours later, go “OH! I get it! You’re candy corn.” But it was a lot of fun anyways =)
