Whistler Day 3

So I decide to play today smart…well smarter. I signed up for a second half-day lesson which starts at 12:45 and this time I’m NOT going out with the boys. Metzer and Guac head out around 10 and Elad joins them at noon. I get in some work and hop in the hot tub again. Sweet heaven….who knew hot water was sooo therapeutic!

I head out to Blackcomb base by way of shuttle and am sore but psyched for my 2nd lesson. Maybe by tomorrow I can play with the boys. Well, maybe I can make it down the mountain without boring them tooo much =) I end up with the same instructor from yesterday, Kassia, which is awesome cuz she was great. And on top of it all, it ends up being a private lesson. SCHWEET!

The plan, and I say plan, was to do a run on Magic Chair and then go up the mountain to hit some long, nice greens. We go up on Magic Chair and I manage to get off the lift without falling! Go me! Okay, okay, so what does it matter if they had to slow the chair lift to a crawl. It’s still victory!

I strap in and instantly fall twice trying to do a heelside-to-toeside turn. So Kassia tells me to point down the mountain before pointing over to the right. BOOM! I link 4 turns. I LINK 4 TURNS aaaand then SPLAT! At least now I can do it! We’re halfway down the mountain and it’s been 15 minutes. Much better than yesterday’s run.

Turn. Fall. Turn. FALL. I bit it hard and landed so hard on my chest that the wind was knocked out of me and my brain was ringing. BUT, I didn’t hit my head. After a few moments to catch my breath, I get up and try again. I can see the bottom…must make it to the bottom. WHAM! I catch my edge again, this time turning from toeside-to-heelside. I land on my tailbone and I can’t get up. HOLY MOTHER OF….(fill in the blank). I finally get up and walk and sit straight back down on the other side of the mountain. Take a few deep breaths and fall over on my back. OUCH.

So apparently Whistler has been snow-less for over 10 days and so the mountain is hard packed and icy. Every day it melts and then every night it re-freezes. Kassia suggests that since we’ve only been out a half hour that I re-schedule for another day. Sounds good to me. I move the lesson to Thursday and head home.

I feel like I’m waddling like a duck my rear end hurts so much! Once home, I jump in the hot tub and soak for a while. The guys are meeting me at the base of Blackcomb at the end of my lesson so I have to head out to meet them. They’ve had good runs and apparently Steve is a bullet on ice! Steve took his camera out on his run today and got some GREAT picutres and put together a fun slideshow. We head back to the condo and we all hit the hot tub again.

Everyone goes down for a nap except me. Around 8:30 everyone’s back up and I decide to cook dinner. I make a grocery run and cook up some fettuccine with ground beef, mushrooms, green peppers, tomatoes, basil, and red sauce. It’s well received and an hour later I’m out like a baby again.
